I'm fascinated by the emotion you find in tiny facial movements. There's the barely perceptible frown that tells you something is wrong, the big eyes staring out of a picture as their lips split and are frozen forever and almost say something, the little smile of unexpected pleasure. Then there are the hands, which unconsciously act as a second mouth and the body that bows and straightens up from pain or elation. It was the emotion of the person that interested me. So I started also to making portraits, first of my family and friends and of everyone who would sit for me.
